Thanksgiving is over and black Friday is coming to a close.

Two days away from the computer screens, two days away from editing slides, two days away from the trading floor stress, and two days away from another pitch book mess.

Two now done and two more to come.

Among the things to be thankful for, this long weekend surely is one.

pumpkin puke

Today I woke to the after effects of Thanksgiving gone wild. Luckily this year granny kept her top on and Uncle Pete pre rolled his joints. This way none of my nieces and nephews went home crying or singing "Pass the Dutchie"...

I myself, was so overjoyed that the police didn't come knocking, I relaxed for the first time in what seemed like months. I was a case deep before the bird ran out of the oven and recall corralling the entire pumpkin pie the way Charles Barkley would a rebound.

It was good times.

From what I can remember.

And then I woke up. Cranberry sauce crust on my cheeks.

Everything hurt and what didn't hurt... didn't work ...

My nephews are running around screaming and I'm too weak to yell or give chase.

Okay boys, I'm a six-pack deep, the whole block reeks of the bird and it sounds like an NFL locker room in here. Dug up a nice little ditty for you guys to tell the ladies at the table without getting smacked with a drumstick.

No time for stories, today everything's nice, so grab a couple drunk uncles and go shoot some dice!

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
and your pies take the prize,
and may your Thanksgiving dinner
stay off your thighs!

Best wishes everyone. Be one with the gobble. Let that tryptophan do what it do.

Should Insider Trading Be Legal?

In the midst of the FBI’s insider trading crackdown, Stockpickr founder and Tim Burton lookalike James Altucher has posed an interesting question; should insider trading even be illegal?

He argues that it shouldn’t, citing among other things, “If some players in a market have an advantage, then some have a disadvantage and that’s not fair.”

He however isn’t sure if it will come out black and white, but stated the benefits of legalization:

Prompted by the contemplations of my buddy, Frieds. I want to share a Thanksgiving-specific experience of mine, with you guys.

I hope everyone can get something out of it, but this one is dedicated to the monkey rotting in his cubicle...one foot in front of the other...counting down the minutes until closing time.

I have one real friend in this world. Name, dates and locations are inconsequential. We've known each since diapers. We laughed and cried together since before we could speak.

Living in New York is easy to come in contact with bankers. Three nights ago I went out to dinner with a friend who brought a friend who used to work at Merrill Lynch before getting take over by BofA. We got into the whole banking conversation and went on to tell me the hours were not 100 a week but were more like 8:00am-10:00pm in real estate and lodging with an occasional all nighter. He looked at me and said "You better say good bye to your family and friends boo boo because in banking you are selling your soul to the devil". As his story went on he then proceeded to tell a story of how one day he looked out the window, then looked at his co-workers, who then looked at him and asked if he was ok. He went back to his cubicle to clean his desk and said his good byes to everyone.

With Thanksgiving already upon us, I've started thinking about cranking out my annual Christmas ditty and I thought I'd try something a little different this year. I'd like you guys to help with it.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I write a poem every year entitled "The Street Before Christmas" which recounts all the big Wall Street stories of the preceding year. Here is The Street Before Christmas 2008 and The Street Before Christmas 2009 for reference.

Great article on the cost of an MBA and the fortunes of those graduating. In this economy an MBA is no longer a guarantee for riches. Pretty scary thought.

Oh wait...this is free content.

1) DO

Give me a reason...I often make analogies to the dating game as it is strikingly similar to your job hunt and career aspirations. You are trying to get someone to give you something. Just use your head. What do they want from you? Do they want to be your guidance counselor? Babysitter? GPA calculator? Top 10 chart maker? Salary info provider?

Seeing as this week we will be celebrating Thanksgiving and considering that I happen to enjoy a little senimentality around the holidays, I thought it would be appropriate to propose that we all take a moment out of our hectic lives to stop and reflect about the world around us, and find something that we can be grateful for.

You let them in, and the performance begins.

Warren Buffett needs to STFU when it comes to Tax Policy

"I think we need to...take a little more out of the hides of guys like me," Buffett testified"

If Buffett thinks wealthy people should be paying more in taxes, then I suggest he makes his next charitable donation directly to Uncle Sam. Nothing stopping you from giving more than the IRS asks for.

Not to mention, the asshole has billions in the bank which will not be touched by taxes until he is dead. Therefore, any income tax increases are completely meaningless to him...yet he makes these grand statements about the rich not paying their fair share. The top 50% in this country pays ~70% of all the taxes. If that's not enough, then what is?
