KONY 2012, why do we care?

With all of this KONY 2012 crap going viral, it made me think. Why do we as a society feel the constant need to support an endless number of causes. I passionately support causes that are close to me. For example I donate a considerable sum of money to the JDRF every year along with a few other things. These things hit close to home and are very important to me.

I do not however understand our constant need to support every cause out there. I get the whole civil war thing is sad. However it does directly affect me in any way. I guess it is the narcissistic and psychopathic nature that I have. But with allof the shit that happens here you would think we would give a few shits more about our own back yard before going out and taking on another helpless cause abroad.

Nasdaq at 5000?

With the current rally in the markets along with the exponential market cap gains in the technology sector how do you guys view the possibility of a Nasdaq of 5000? If Facebook gets added to the Nasdaq along with the insane growth of apple and the future exponential growth that is projected for amazon as ecommerce is projected to 25% of total commerce. Y the end of the decade. Do you guys think Nasdaq at 5000 is possible in his decade.

For those of you who know me, know that my adventures in the world of finance have been driven largely by debauchery and luck. My path and the recent rash of threads about target school admissions and job searches has made me think about the world of high finance. Do our backgrounds really matter? Can we really stand out from the crowd or is everything in life just plain dumb luck?

What I mean to say is, in a world where everyone has comperable stats do we really stand out, or are we just picked at random from a hat?

Bailing out your firm

Currently a hypothetical situation.

What would you guys do if your firms came to you and asked if you would give the company a bailout?

I feel that this situation might come up for me in the near future. My firm is looking to acquire a complementary firm and I think they will have to put up money if the deal goes south and falls apart. The thing I am worried about is that the amount will exceed the total easily liquid assets of the firm and they come to me and ask for money to keep the company afloat.

Would you? If so what would you ask for?

Over the last week I have gotten several questions regarding my investment strategies. I would be happy to answer your questions if you have any.

I have been active in land investing since I was in high school. I was willed an acreage of farm ground in the midwest. This was during the beginning of the easy money love fest that got us in the situation we are in now. I began aggressively expanding my holdings by borrowing huge sums of money against my existing holdings and the appreciation that had ensued over the real estate bubble. I have expanded investments to include forest land, oil and gas explorations, mining land. I am currently analyzing a timber tract in Alaska that is currently inaccessible.
