Day 9: Why I Won't Date Bankerella

Banker Chick

Andy note: See "A Male Banker Describes A Typical Female Banker In NYC — And Why He Won't Date One" on BI yesterday.

This post was inspired by What every banker girl needs. Once again, this reminds me that there are many delusional girls in New York City. Village Voice published an article in 2011 that detailed how unbearable these women are: Dear Single Women of NYC: It's Not Them, It's You.

As a Young Asian Professional (YAP) in NYC, I am affiliated with various social groups including Asian Ivy League Mixers and one type of girls that you can't miss out is your typical "banker chick". I want to talk about how they think, what they got it all wrong and why you shouldn't waste your time on them.

Today, I want to spend time talking about how martial art plays an important role in my life. Yes, when I am not busy out there, 1) networking my ways on Wall Street and 2) mastering the art of seduction, I am 3) busy polishing on my fighting skills. Every Saturday morning 10am to noon, I have been going to Shotokan Karate class at Columbia University. The two hours of intense Karate class was followed by another two hours (1pm to 3pm) of brutal MMA class, a full body contact sparing with minimum safety equipments (only mouth guard and groin protector) with members of former Israeli special force who practice Krav Maga.

Andy note: Human is away this week, so he asked me to syndicate this helpful post from his blog thesummereffects.wordpress.com

My name is Summer. I am the eldest son in a family of five with one sister and then one brother. I came from a traditional big extended family (300+) in a beautiful Southeast Asian country known as Burma (Myanmar). As a fourth generation Chinese in Burma, I have always been very interested in being an entrepreneur building successful business at a young age. My parents have managed several successful businesses and it has greatly influenced on what I wanted as a career: independence, creativity, entrepreneurship and most importantly taking risks in life.

My father is the eldest son in his family and being his eldest son, I always know that I am being put on spotlight. While growing up, everyone in the family expect a lot from me. I can always feel it even if I tried to ignore it. Nevertheless, I used that pressure as motivation to push myself harder in life.

There were several important milestones in my life that have had huge impacts on me:

1. Getting into the Top High School – persistence always pay dividends.

3 Minutes Toastmaster Speech

Hi Good Evening everyone. I am giving out my first Ice Breaker speech. Before I start my speech, “can I have a raise of hand to see who are originally ‘not’ from New York?” I guess most of us are not from here. I used to tell my friends that New York is like a gorgeous woman that you are seeing, she might mistreat you from time to time but you just can’t get enough of her. At least that’s what I said to the gentlemen. To the ladies, I usually replace woman with wife and marriage. My female friends get the sentimental kick out of it. I just love the city because of this great energy. This vibe. That everyone is here to look for their “calling in life”. I don’t see that anywhere else as much as I see in The City.

My family is from Myanmar, a small country between Thailand and India. , The most influential people from my country that got international recognition is U Thant. Next time you go to UN building, take a note of the statue right before Kofi Annan, his name is U Thant. He is the former Secretary General of UN from 1961-1971. And then there is Aung San Su Kyi, who was a noble price winner in 1991 for her democratic movement. Interestingly her house is right across my home back in Yangon.

I believe that we can also become the better version of us. To me being articulate is very important. In order to say the right things, you need to have a better understanding of human nature. You need to understand what people want. An idea is not just a word or a phase. It is composed of deeper understanding into human psychology. A word is not just a word. The carefully chosen word reflects exactly what you are feeling. My preferred choice of words expresses who I am as an individual. They form ideas, express feelings and define who I am. Let me go through an example with all of you.

When was the last time you thought of ripping off your MD/VP/Associate's head? Have you had enough of your hippy family members who keep yapping about how Wall Street is destroying the world? When was the last time you really hated someone?

Today I am going to talk about how to clear out negative thoughts. Have you realized that there are certain people that you just hate? You feel that they stand for everything that you despise. And why is that? I actually read this book: “Zero Limits”. In the book, the author said, you can only see things in others for the things that you see in yourself. What does that mean? Everyone is simply a projection of you. You feel certain ways towards others because that’s how you associate yourself with.

Day 2: Healthy Competition Among Mature Men

Just to take a quick break from the job search related posts, I want to mix things up a bit today. Most men are depressed from two things: 1) Money/Job, 2) Relationship. So I am going to talk a bit on #2, since we already focused enough attention on #1 on WSO. The truth of the matter is there is no much difference between charming a girl and winning an offer. In the end of the day, you have to make the other person on the other side of the table, says "Yes, and Yes." I think success in dating and success in career often overlaps because at the end of the day, you want to be able to present yourself well in front of others.

It hit me one day that most guys are competing with each other in New York City dating scene. I think it’s a fair game. However, it must be fair and it must be just. It must be a healthy competition that is carried out like grownups. Today, I want to talk about how to create the right mindset.

If by rudyard kipling

My self-development journey started in May 2010. I was broke, overweight and single. Life became one giant question mark, and for me, it was extremely painful and stressful. I went through an emotional journey to rebuild my identity, get in shape and find a purpose in life. It wasn’t easy but I am glad that I came out stronger at the end. Exactly one year after, I am rightfully employed and pursuing my career. I have lost 45 lbs to a healthy weight at 180 lbs. And my dating life has been going well. What have I learned so far? Here are a few rules I think every "young gentleman" should know...
