CFA
If working in commodities which is becoming streamlined and narrowed as a broker / trader, how valuable will the CFA be. Understand its v broad therefore it would provide an in depth financial knowledge and broaden horizons for someone who has only worked in metals? Is it as respected by banks as a masters (I would choose CFA because of cost, it's a lot less than a masters + it can be done alongside work).
In terms of career path it may not help get a job, but in the future it could open the door to other parts of finance, which I would only become familiar with via this type of exam. I have passed IMC exam so I have some understanding.
Has anyone taken it and found it worthwhile, I need the opinions of people who have taken it really, so I can gage whether or not to commit the time to passing it next year.
Main aims from taking it are NOT to get a better job or more money necessarily its more:
1) Gain more knowledge of finance, I trade shares p/a so some of the skills acquired would help with my own portfolio
2) Prove intelligence and commitment if ever applying for banking roles in the future, it could help me stand out vs other metals traders who I know wouldn't have taken this exam
3) I am young and viewing my career as 20-25 years longer, not 3-5 years therefore having this kind of certificate as a basis for my career could be invaluable in the future.
Please be honest and give me your opinions!!
Note, so far two people I know who have done it with excellent jobs have both recommended it and said it could be useful for someone with only niche / a narrow area of experience.
