Former Goldman Smokeshow Killing It as Webpreneur

Did any of you guys get a hug from these hotties a few weeks ago? Former model and Goldman Sachs employee (I'm thinking sales) Olga Vidisheva, 27, has launched Shoptiques.com after her stint at Harvard Business School. The site is a worldwide boutique aggregator, and it's a pretty cool idea. You can shop the boutiques in any number of cities without leaving your couch. Great for those of you who are looking for one-of-a-kind stuff. Can you believe she worked at Goldman? More to the point, can you believe she didn't come back for an associate stint?

I've seen this attempted a few times now, so the idea is nothing unique (I've also seen it attempted with food). I wish I could remember the names of the companies (saw them at hackathons, seed funding competitions, etc.). I think the only reason this is getting attention is due to the fact that she's a hot ex-Goldman HBS girl, not for anything particularly innovative.

My drinkin' problem left today, she packed up all her bags and walked away.

Wow, when the video started and they showed the CEO, I figured she was some random Russian model. Took me by surprise.

The site essentially "curates" boutique clothing from trendy boutiques in major cities (i.e. NYC, LA, etc.) so people who never get to go to those places (or lazy people that live there) can shop online. Obviously not the most original idea ever, but who cares? All that matters is that it makes a buck. I'm sure any number of people could throw this site together in a "hackathon" or whatever, but a site like this is made or broken by the products it actually sells and its marketing.

Also, it's a helluva lot better than a social network for boutique shop owners. Hahaha.

Ah and if I'm remembering right the industry was a huge problem for a group that had really started to go down that road.

Boutiques want to stay boutiques. The whole 'we're an Italian niche in SoHo' thing sort of dies online, and thus people won't pay for over-priced shit some woman in Kansas has access too. It's like the South Park episode where Cartman buys a theme park and declares, 'yewww can't comee'. People buy this shit because you CAN'T get it online.

Long story short the website that was doing this was only able to partner with a small number of boutiques and eventially lost site traffic because of a lack of variety. Don't see why this will end differently.

I think I might start up something like this for guys. I fucking hate it when I walk into a room and someone is wearing the same thing as me. I'm always like, ugh....fuck!
