Geithner Out; Bloomberg Next Treasury Secretary
Pretty interesting speculation here:

Kudlow says Geithner is out as Treasury Secretary and that NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg has already agreed to take over. What do you think that will do for the country in general, and Wall Street in particular?
I detest Bloomberg and have from the beginning of his political career. This guy is the epitome of nanny-state liberalism. This guy genuinely thinks he knows better than everyone else. And the way he was elected was simply classless--to avoid a Democrat primary, this long-time liberal ran as a Republican and then used his vast financial resources to drown out his challenger in the general election. Then, he summarily left the GOP to become a left-wing "independent" where he's imposed his will on the people of NYC. And from what I understand, the safe streets of Giuliani have already begun to decline under this socialist piece of garbage.
weren't the 'safe streets' of giuliani proven to be the safe streets of abortion law?
Outliers FTW.
Freakanomics
I love Bloomberg. I'd be bummed to lose him as mayor here in New York
Lol @ bloomberg socialist cOmment . Seriously? Lmao
Just because a guy is wealthy doesn't mean he or she doesn't have very socialist tendencies. Ted Turner, for example, is a self-described socialist despite being the single largest land owner in America. Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry are extraordinarily wealthy and both have strongly socialist tendencies in their policies. The same goes for the Kennedy clan, minus JFK. Bloomberg, with his taxes, strict regulation of human behavior, rhetoric, and leftist take on crime, is definitely a candidate for Wall Street socialist.
SB 4 VT
That's too bad, I thought he'd be an intriguing presidential candidate.
I don't necessarily hate Bloomberg, but I will agree that I think he is pretty shady with the way he went about being elected. He is also the most tax happy guy I can think of. I don't know why everyone is so anti-Geithner. TARP is ending, they are looking to unwind GM and AIG. The govt is looking to probably make some money or not lose as bad as it almost always does. I suppose Bush did something right (oh wait, 2 things when you include the surge).
I don't see the upside for Bloomberg. He is never going to win a Presidential election. He would have to step down from his post as Mayor. Being treasury secretary is about as popular as being the devil's right hand man. Unless Hillary or Schumer decided to run for President he has no Senate seats open. No way the rest of NY is going to vote for him to become Governor.
You know what would be shocking? Bloomberg going back to being a private citizen. That is what ruins politics. People try and never give it up. Politics is like sports. You have your prime and if you try and stay past that you end up a has been trying to keep the dream going. Know when to hold'em and know when to fold'em.
Agree with VTech
From my understanding, NYC is still pretty safe. Slight uptick in some crimes, but it's still one of the safest larger cities.
I agree with most of VATech's comments. Bloomberg basically wants the government to regulate people's behavior and is in no way a fiscal conservative. Having said that, he's vastly more competent than anyone else I can think of with regards to running the nation's largest city. A traditional democrat, if elected mayor, would destroy NYC and bring it back to the pre-Rudy years during which hardworking professionals were constantly getting mugged and raped by thugs. Of course, liberals argued that these thugs were merely oppressed victims of the "white man."
