Happy Hour Recap: February, Part 2
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear @Frieds ..."
"F*CK YOU, IN THE FLESH!!!!"
This past Happy Hour (the second one held in February!) was notable for a few things, even if it had slightly smaller attendance than usual (around 25 monkeys at peak). At the very least, this Happy Hour was devoid of famous, Grammy-nominated guitarists complimenting me on my singing of Billy Joel.
One, there were a TON of new faces. I make an effort to talk to everyone I possibly can to give you a proper welcome, so if for some reason I didn't get to greet you, it isn't personal, I promise! We had a wide variety of industries and backgrounds from all over the Street, from consultants and start-ups to interns and analysts. I even met someone from my firm who I may eventually have to work with.
Two, there were warm wishes all around for at least two reasons. One was Frieds' birthday that had taken place earlier in the week (and he thanked us for singing to him in his usual, brusque manner). If @Frieds has anything to add to this recap, he is more than welcome to in the comments. Glad to have you back at Happy Hour!
A number of us also toasted to interview success--one of the attendees had a final round this week, and she brought out the person who had referred her for the position to the happy hour as well. It was like the real-life Guidance Counselor award from @"Edmundo Braverman" 's Monday Mentions. The referrer knows who he is; I raise my glass to you, sir!
Third was the return of @Flake after a very long absence, and Frieds and I treated some newcomers to a few of his finest happy hour moments from memory. Others who know Flake will be pleased to hear that he is not, in fact, deceased.
Fourth is a shoutout to @karypto for being on the alert and removing a drunken gate-crasher who was probably late for an AA meeting.
And finally, my hat is off to the Galway staff. When our reserved room was blocked by an enormous crowd of other partygoers who weren't in a very mobile mood, the large bouncer graciously cleared a path for us to get through. The manager poked his head in from time to time to check on us, and of course our waitress did a very professional and nice job. A craft beer enthusiast, she was able to recommend a solid standby Goose Island IPA after my first couple of choices were unavailable.
At some point she also approached me and asked, "That guy over there ordered a cocktail and said you were paying. That true?"
"Oh yes, it's his birthday," I responded. "I'm glad to." Three guesses who she was referring to?
Thanks to all for coming out, and I hope a good time was had by all! See you at the next one!
really? no shoutout here?
No one likes you. I especially don't like you when you don't answer my texts.
Bankin' hard
Had a great time, looking forward to the next one
@Whiskey5 : Gotta be impressive, what can I say? Haha
@Zargo : Maybe next time we'll see Jack White?
I don't care who we see, as long as they comment on your singing ability
In that case, perhaps next time I should sing "The Entertainer!"
Good times I'll definitely try to stick around longer for the next one.
