Lunch Beat: Euro Lunch Craze Coming To NYC

The First Rule of Lunch Beat:If it’s your first time at Lunch Beat, you have to dance. Lunch Beat is a new social/lunch event taking over Europe. Groups of professionals meet in a large unused space in the city for an hour at lunchtime, dance nightclub style with a DJ spinning tunes, and then grab some food. Events have taken place across Europe and the first Lunch Beat in the U.S. will be on Wednesday in Long Island City, Queens, NYC. There is no alcohol or other substances, just you, some food, and music.

It’s an extraordinary scene for midday: young and old dancing together, without any of the alcohol, pretension, or sexual tension that are often synonymous with the nightclub experience. [Molly Range] recalls seeing young men from two of the country’s major financial institutions arguing in the waiting line recently. They were debating which bank would prevail in a dance-off.

So would you ever consider attending a Lunch Beat?

This sounds crazy, but it could be a lot of fun. You would definitely need to make sure you had a spare shirt for work afterwards if you were going to attend.

Considering they have well in excess of an hour for break, they'll likely take a shower and nap before heading back to the office

I'm from Germany and I can't imagine that succeeding. Neither do people have the time for these excessive lunch breaks, nor would I feel like ridiculing myself for going there.
On behalf of the US, I applaud what y'all are doing for the continent. Last century, Germany tore the place apart, this time around you're keeping it together. But dance once in a while, don't be so bloody Prussian all the time :)

Ha, I'm actually not. But I'd rather be productive during the day and go out on the weekends where I can have drinks and stay until 5, 6 or 7am, compared to going to "party" at 1pm with some diet soda. Remember, we do have no bar time in Good Old Prussia :)

  1. i'm not surprised this is huge in europe, those guys will dance to almost anything (see below)

  2. i can def see this catching on in nyc w/ the hipsters

  3. no one wants to see finance guys dancing so i'm guessing this won't catch on well in w/ the wall street crowd + i second what hpm said

Umm...what's the point if there's no alcohol or sexual tension? That's the only reason TO dance.

I'm going to get some buddies with native wear and do rain dances on Wall, these people need to loosen up a little. Then we're doing a war dance for OWS. If some stiff in a suit wants to join, all the better, I'm building an army.
