MOOC's to stand out for Job
So I've spent two years in audit and I'm looking to stand out a bit by getting some knowledge outside of audit for a TAS rotation. I've been looking at some MOOC's and I found one on edx which has support from schools like MIT, Harvard, UT, Berkeley and etc.
One of the classes they have offered is "M&A Professional Certificate Part 1 – Concepts and Theories: An Introduction" it's a 5 part class. The price isn't bad but I'm curious if anyone has actually heard of the people offering it and if it would be even worth pursuing. It's put on by the New York Institute of Finance (NYIF) which I just heard head of for the first time because I was surfing the edx site.
The time consumption for each class seems incredibly low as well which makes me think it could be a scam to an extent but the site this hosted on is known for being pretty reputable.
Any thoughts on the legitimacy?
Sorry I can't post the links, I'm not senior enough to be allowed to post yet.... it's edx
Any one ? Would also like to know the opinion ?
Bump...
I would highly discourage everyone from taking these courses. They are a waste of capital.
If you want to take the courses to learn, take the courses to learn.
No one gives a shit about the "certificate" (caveat: in finance; other industries might find it interesting). If you want to prove that you've learned something, take the CFA.
EDIT: Didn't mean to reply. The above is directed at the OP.

Powerpoint MOOC worth it? (Originally Posted: 03/25/2017)
I'm starting an IBD analyst job soon and my powerpoint skills are rusty. Has anyone tried the advanced powerpoint MOOC on Udemy? I'd just go ahead and buy it, but the $200 price tag gives me some pause.
Link here: https://www.udemy.com/powerpoint-speed-training/
Or are there any alternatives for getting up to speed with powerpoint that don't cost $200?
Come on man, don't do that to yourself. Taking a MOOC for powerpoint? are you serious? you're better off keeping that money. Of everything you need to know I doubt powerpoint is important.
Dude what are you think absolutely not. Powerpoint is super important but no need to spend $200...
Udemy offers coupon codes of sometimes up to 90% off. With one of those, this course might be interesting to have as a reference. https://www.retailmenot.com/view/udemy.com?c=8673154. You can just google "Udemy Coupons" to find other examples.
But there are other free and cheap options for PPT on Udemy. IMO you shouldn't spend more than $10-20 for a course on there (after considering the coupon).

I'm taking comp sci courses on EDX. What are you opinion on moocs? does it make you more attractive to employers or are they looked down upon?
It's not something you do to boost your resume - it's something you do to learn.
