My Epiphany about Fantasy Football and MBA

As I was taking a break from my essay brainstorming I, uh, decided to do some preliminary research on the upcoming fantasy football season. (BTW if you haven't had a chance pick up Matthew Berry's new book Fantasy Life. I finished it in two days. Hilarious. Here is a snippet of the book: http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-10-worst-punishments-losing-in-fantasy-…). A light bulb came on. Check this out:

MBA tiers are just like running back tiers

Mega elite studs: Adrian Peterson, Arian Foster, and Doug Martin are your H/S/W this year. (I personally think Martin will have an amazing year [going on record] and a better pick than everyone else at this point)

Elite studs: Jamaal Charles, CJ Spiller, Marshawn Lynch, Ray Rice, Lesean McCoy plus Megatron round out your top 10. I think Megatron and Shady are arguably on the lower end of this tier, just as Tuck and Cal are usually the two excluded when the topic of M7 is discussed.

Bona Fide RB1s: Trent Richardson, Alfred Morris, Steven Jackson, Matt Forte, Ridley, Chris Johnson are your top 14 schools, such as Johnson, Stern, Anderson, Duke, Darden, Ross, Yale. Great RBs that'll get you the carries you want with a bit of a name recognition. A bit of a step down if you will from the previous tier.

Other Running Backs: Tough to rank from here on out. There will be some names that people will recognize, but it'll be really hard to evaluate their value at this point.

What do you think about my idea? Is it plain stupid, or super ingenious? :)

obviously a silly joke post ;) i would think someone with a screenname that references The Van Buren Boyz can tell such. now if you think it's horrible, then lolMe

warning: fantasy strategy follows: and I know megatron is wr. he's been valued at lower rb1 tier (because of his Value Above Replacement) for the last few seasons (even though I never end up with him for whatever reason). Targeting Jimmy Graham in round 2 this season because of VAR.

West Coast (or anyone else) do you play in money leagues? I had no idea Berry wrote a book, he's a decent analyst, but caters to the masses and all the sheep follow his oftentimes basic and/or common sense advice. Will check out his book though, he's pretty entertaining.

" A recession is when other people lose their job, a depression is when you lose your job. "

I like the concept. Plus, I too am very high on Martin! I wouldn't slot him over All Day, but definitely over Foster unless something dramatic happens with Houston's right side.

"My caddie's chauffeur informs me that a bank is a place where people put money that isn't properly invested."

Seriously people lets stop ranking this stuff. Successful people never got that way by trying to assign a hierarchy to life and then trying to figure out what their rank is in that hierarchy.

If we're going to rank MBAs, lets compare them to old cars:

Columbia/Sloan: The 1990 Chevy Impala.

Harvard/Stanford/Wharton: The 1983 F150 Truck.

Chicago Booth: 1983 Honda Accord with peeling paint and rust. (Top of the hierarchy)

IlliniProgrammer:

How did this get on the front page? And why does bschool matter that much in a post MBA era of businesses that are light on capital, heavy on IP?
