PAYDAY: The Lanny Breuer Story
This seemed oddly appropriate for April Fools Day. Those of you who were worried about Lanny Breuer's future after stepping down as Wall Street's top cop at the DOJ can breathe a sigh of relief. He's landed on his feet in a big way, and is expected to make $4 million a year as...wait for it...wait for it...a bank lobbyist!!!
Fuh...what?
Covington & Burling, a prominent law firm, plans to announce on Thursday that Mr. Breuer will be its vice chairman. The firm created the role especially for Mr. Breuer, a Washington insider who most recently led the Justice Department’s investigation into the financial crisis.
Wow. Just...wow.
Vice chairman, too. A job that didn't even exist a week ago. Kinda makes you wonder what title they're going to give Eric Holder (another Covington alum) when he finally gets put out to pasture for the bang up job (no Fast & Furious pun there, honest) he's done as US Attorney General.
At least he waited a respectable period of time (60 whole days) before accepting a 7-figure gig defending the very banks he was tasked with going after as a public servant. Homie gotta get payed!
I'll leave you guys with the excellent Frontline episode that led to his hasty departure from the DOJ (he resigned less than 24 hours after it aired - coincidence? Methinks not). Chalk another one up for the good guys:
Watch The Untouchables on PBS. See more from FRONTLINE.

Have a great April Fools Day, guys. You can bet your ass that Lanny is.
The fact that this isn't an April Fools joke is absurd. What a sleezebag.
nothings has or ever will change.
Honestly, I'm beginning to wonder what point at all there is to even bothering with ethics. It seems that the people charged with protecting them don't. Honestly, I'm one of those guys that gets away with stuff and every passing day I look at the news and think "fuck this, fuck you, FTW, I'm going to just take whatever the hell I can get my hands on and no one can stop me."
I'm amazed this is even allowed. Is most European countries you have to go through a conflict of interest board. It's completely ridiculous.
