Did the cultural differences play a role in how you networked? In other words, is there a different approach to networking in Asia than NY?
ibd101: I'll get more into that next post. But it definitely does play a role. When I networked in Asia I focused on reaching out to westerners working in HK as they were much more likely to help

on your first question. it depends which division you're working in. for IBD chinese language is critical. but for S&T it never mattered for me.
on your second question, your best bet is big firms if they have to sponsor a working Visa. or i did have friends while I was living over there that got internships for the summer through networking. but some of that was unpaid so they didn't have to deal with the Visa.
