Another take on OCR recruiting (the ones that did everything right)
Post By @Mephistopheles"

I wrote this because while the other OCR thread was hilarious (and accurate), I wanted to reach out to those who may still be struggling even though they are doing everything right. This applies to more than OCR candidates— anyone who has not yet been able to break in may find it encouraging.

5 ways a career on WS is not what it used to be
Post By @geoffblades"

In the old days, many people perceived joining Wall Street as a golden ticket. They figured that if you put your head down and work hard, your career can be whatever you want it to be. However today, many "Wall Streeters" are beaten down. Slaving away every day, they no longer see how their careers are working for them. Here's five ways your Wall Street career has changed and what you can do about it.

Five Years After the Dodd-Frank Act- Part 2: Too-Big-to-Fail and to Regulate
Post By @Learn Signal"

The greatest legacy of the Act's first five years, has been increasing the regulatory burden and complexity of compliance systems in the U.S. financial services industry. The risk this legacy poses - that of reducing competition and severely restricting new entry by innovative, disruptive firms and start ups - has a good chance for undermining the very core objective of the Act: the objective of improving stability and performance of the sector by successfully challenging TBTF institutions' dominance.

AMA - Corp Dev (F500) with a non-traditional background and b school
Post By @mooresrp"

I work in corporate development at a professional services company (Fortune 500) in NYC. My career path to corp dev was not traditional and didn't involve IB. Feel free to ask questions about going from a non-traditional background into finance, b-school, corporate development, etc.

What is family life like in finance?
Post By @Human Capital"

I've always wondered how people juggle their job and family while also being in a very time-demanding field. While I don't intend on having kids until my early 30s, I would never want my kid to think I'm a piece of shit parent.

Owning a Franchise (Dunkin Donuts, Wingstop, etc.)
Post By @osu1010"

Does anyone here have experience or know anyone who owns franchises? What are the first year sales like? What kind of work do you do? How are the net profit margins? What percent of the sales do you usually keep home after deducting real estate, labor, etc? Is it possible to start and operate a franchise while still working your full time job?

Medicine to Consulting
Post By @Medtoconsult"

Would you recommend that I go back immediately for an MBA or should I look for a consulting job, possibly involving healthcare/pharma work for 2 - 3 yrs, then go back for an MBA?

Where do you think we are in the cycle?
Post By @picklemonkey"

I would love to hear different people's opinions on this topic. I have talked with several different people recently and many seem to think we are approaching the end of this cycle (maybe less than 12 months until a pullback). However, some argue that in many areas of the country, there is still a good deal of pent up demand for several different asset classes.
