Got connected to an MD, had a phone screen with an associate and got behavioral / fit type questions. Went into the office for an in-person interview and got asked very light interviews. This was for a Summer 2019 internship.
Interview Questions
They really focused on my fit for the firm - a lot of time was spent going over why I wanted to go to the school I go to, why investment banking, and then why I wanted to be in LA. Asked about how I operate in a team-focused environment because a lot of their work is done in teams. These weren't really unexpected I was just surprised that so much of the interview focused on behavioral questions rather than the typical technical questions that I usually saw in interviews for boutique type shops in the area.

Interview
Reached out to an alumni at the firm. Was then contacted by the current intern at Capello who scheduled a phone interview with me. Know all your technicals for DCF, EV/Equity Value, & Accounting. Interviewer asked me questions verbatim from BIWS guides
Interview Questions
Since I had applied for a sophomore summer internship I was not expecting the interview to be nearly as technical as it was. The questions asked were not hard, especially if you are well versed with the BIWS guides. I did not get a return offer since I was way too under prepared for the position. In terms of behavior, just know the basics. There were no brainteasers either. Just be able to walk through your resume, define what an investment bank is, and be able to explain the fundamental concepts.

Interview
Got an interview through a current intern who recommended me. First round screens are traditionally through interns or analysts, followed by a phone or in person interview with an MD.
Interview Questions
Nothing unexpected. It is a very basic investment banking interview. Pretty much to technicals unless your resume asked for it.

I would recommend you know yourself, know your resume, know why you want to do investment banking, and why you want to work at Cappello Global. MDs are pretty nice and they want to see that you have the powerpoint/excel skills needed to add value as an intern. Essentially, be able to talk about your experiences well and that will set you up for a good interview. Good luck!

Call with an analyst. Got the offer from an associate a month later. They really are transparent with the type of firm they are. All males, very collegiate atmosphere.
Interview Questions
Mostly personal because they value the fit. Basic tech questions from M&I Guide. If you seem to struggle with a few of the questions, the more they tend to ask. So the more confident you sound in answering and are well-spoken, the easier they will be on you

Interview
I reached out to someone online via cold emailing and ended up getting a positive response (as in they wanted to speak with me more) and set up a phone call with an analyst. It was pretty informal and relaxed but he did ask some accounting/valuation questions. Then a few weeks later I heard from someone higher up and had a similar phone call and within a few days I had a final round (phone) interview set up. I had the offer within a week of the final phone call.
Interview Questions
There honestly wasn't anything that was super unexpected. Most everything was pretty standard except one question in the first phone call about writing down an asset that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the day-to-day operations of the business and how it affects the three financial statements. I didn't get it one hundred percent right but the guy even said that they don't expect people to get it right they just like to ask so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Interview
I interviewed for a Fall Analyst position in August 2011. As the interview was off-cycle, I'd say the interview process was more lax compared to the Summer Analyst class. I initially cold-called the firm in June 2012 and asked the receptionist for the Head of Recruiting. As the bank is a boutique, recruiting duties were given to an Analyst at the firm. At this point, I left a professional yet brief voicemail explaining my interests in IB, my desire to be a Summer Analyst, and for an opportunity to chat. To my surprise, 15 minutes later, my voicemail was returned and I had a brief chat with the Analyst.

All Summer Analyst spots were filled by June 2012, so I used the phone call as a networking opportunity. Over the course of three months, I exchanged emails with the Analyst and he recommended some reading material. In addition, he put in touch with another Analyst at the firm who had a similar background to me (Non-Target). After two months of email exchanges, I was invited in for a personal Super-Day for a Fall Analyst Position. The Super-Day consisted of being interviewed by the one Analyst and two Associates. The whole Super-Day process took about 2.5 - 3 hours, each interview lasting approximately 30 - 45 minutes. At the end of the interview, I was astonished to have received a Fall Analyst offer.

Cappello Capital is an excellent office and strongly recommended. Although the Fall Internship is unpaid, the opportunities and networking are excellent. I know former Summer Analysts who now work at Barclays, Houlihan Lokey, Eastdil Secured, Wells Fargo Securities, etc. I can also confirm that Summer Analysts / Summer Associates have interviewed for Green Hill and Evercore in the past. For a Fall Analyst position, you are expected to be able to come into the office full-time three days a week. In general, hours were from 8:30 AM - 10 PM. Summer Analysts were expected to work longer hours. Since I was balancing school, there were no all nighters, although this is justified as the internship is unpaid. In addition, two of my former Fall Analysts continued through the Spring and received Full-Time offers from Cappello. The Firm has great people, a laid-back, Santa-Monica feel, and bankers are generally kind to one another. However, at least 3-4 Analysts / Associates have left in the last year, so the culture may have shifted. The firm does a $25 dinner credit, which leads to a lot of camaraderie between Analysts as you have dinner with one another night after night. From the offices I've seen, I've yet to see a better looking office, with one of the best ocean views around at 100 Wilshire. The owner is a big-time art collector and his personal collection is showcased throughout the office. Solid IB internship through and through.
Interview Questions
Interviews like to ask Excel specific questions. "What does the F2 key do in Excel?" Answer: Allows you to edit the cell. "How do I add a row or column in Excel?" Answer: Alt + I + R/C.
Nothing unexpected besides the previous questions. Walk me through your resume? Walk me through a DCF Model? Why Investment Banking? Etc.
