Corporate Banking Summer Associate

I interviewed for Citi's corporate banking summer associate program on campus. I have no idea how they chose applicants; all of the interviewees had very different backgrounds (some from investment banking previously, some from marketing, some from accounting), but many applicants from equally strong quantitative backgrounds did not even get interviews.

I interviewed with two people at once, an associate (who was an alum) and an MD. It was conversational, but they hit on several technical questions focused mostly on accounting. I was a career-switcher, so they made sure to ask me more technical questions to make sure I could handle the work (I guess they thought otherwise because I got nervous and stumbled through my answers). My classmates who had quantitative backgrounds were asked more behavioral/fit questions.
