Public Finance Summer Inten

Applied through campus recruiting for a position as an investment banking summer analyst in the Public Finance division of JP Morgan's investment bank. Interview was on campus with two executive directors that were alumni of my (non-target) school. The interview started slowly, walking through my resume and talking about some group projects I had worked on. One of the interviewers asked about my degree (a combination of finance and industrial engineering) and specifically about my statistics courses, and asked a few questions about specific statistical terms and measures that he uses in his day-to-day work. A few a knew and could speak about, but some terms used I was unfamiliar with and he was clearly very unimpressed by this. The two were very friendly when explaining their careers paths and talking about what they expected from the intern program. Overall the interviewers were friendly and receptive but I left the interview with a clear feeling that I had left them under-impressed.
