n 2006, my mother sat across from a loan officer who recommended she take out a loan on a house he knew she could not afford. The housing market crashed in 2008 and by 2012, my mother was under water with her loan, behind on her payments and going through a foreclosure. The psychological and emotional stress from the foreclosure eventually led to health problems. Fortunately, she was able to survive the process and move on with her life.
