Please describe the interview / hiring process.
My first communication with KPMG was at a Big 4 campus networking event. Things went well and I got invited to the bar for dinner and drinks with company managers and a few other lucky students. That night I sent in my application on the campus job board AND KPMG's online job portal. A week after, or so, I received an email notifying me I was selected for an interview, as well as a night out (at a bowling bar) with company staff and other interview candidates, which was the night before the interview. The night out was very casual and a great opportunity to interact with the people who will be interviewing you the next morning, as well as other candidates. Open bar, food, the whole nine yards. Interviews happened the next morning, mine was at 9:15am, and were 30 minutes each. I had two interviews back-to-back, one with a Senior Manager, the other with a Partner. The interview with the Senior Manager was more structured, asking mostly behavioral and situation-based questions, with some free discussion towards the end. The Partner asked me two questions about my resume, with the rest of the time taken up by friendly discussion. The office looked great, they gave us a quick tour at the very beginning. After the interview, two Staff Accountants took us out for lunch, and we chatted for a while. While by no means formal, I believe we were still being evaluated at that point.
I believe the most important piece of advice is to be comfortable, appear confident (NOT cocky), and know why you want to do accounting (and more specifically that firm).
