Please describe the interview / hiring process.
The summer analyst position was posted on my college's career center website. I applied and got an interview. It was my very first investment banking interview, and I actually thought I did well considering it was my very first try as a sophomore. Prior to the interview, one of my good friends hooked me up with the analyst who personally picked out my resume because they just happened to have been housemates. I called the analyst and talked to him about Perella. He was going to interview me, but due to conflict of interest, someone else did instead. During the interview, the MD and the other interviewer kept drilling me on technicals. And because I hadn't studied much by that point (again, I applied on a whim and it was my very first interview), I didn't do too well. They also asked me about the company I worked for previously, asking me if I thought my boss should sell the company. I was kinda emotionally attached to the company so I said no, he should keep it and grow it organically himself. They didn't seem to like the answer. In hindsight, I should have provided them with more reasons for why I thought he should grow it himself, in terms of where the industry was going, where the company was headed, and where its competitors were headed.
