Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I landed the interview through a head hunter who I contacted after noticing that they were searching on behalf of Baird. The interview was planned within week after conformation. It was done by phone, not sure if this is standard as I wasn't living in the UK at the time. Was interviewed by two people, one of them an analyst and not sure about the other one as he wasn't the same person they referred to in the email, but not older than 25 I guess. It started as you would expect, a general walk me through your resume and why IB, not necessarily why Baird, but I was asked several questions on their specialties. That part when quite well, they lived up to the their expectations of being nice guys. Concerning the technical's, I thought the questions were quite detailed, seeing I personally had no banking experience on my CV. When I was struggling on an LBO question they asked what the role PIK transfers could play. I think about 30% of the questions where literally from Vault or Breaking Into Wall Street. When that was finished they gave me room for questions and checked that I knew what I was getting into (85-100 hour work week)
I was eventually rejected. The reasons being my motivation was not sound enough and they expected a higher level of technical skills from a masters student. Nothing I can't disagree with, it was my first interview and my answers could have been clearer.
