Cold-emailed both directors, who got back to me within a week and set up phone interviews. The phone interviews were 30 minutes in length and quite casual/conversational in nature. The directors really try to put you at ease and didn't ask me any particularly difficult technical questions. Other candidates (my co-intern) received in-person interviews, but I was on the other side of the country, so the directors thought phone interviews worked fine.
