What other programs are you guys applying to/interested in that are available to freshman?
Just got an email saying the program has been reduced to 1 week instead of 10.....
ya it's crazy...
woah, really? more details please...
Here's the email I received: "Thank you for your interest in the Morgan Stanley Freshman Enhancement Program.
We are pleased to announce an important change to the program structure. Starting in 2017, Freshman Enhancement Program participants will spend time with Morgan Stanley for one week instead of 10, either at the start or the end of the summer. Candidates will receive valuable training and gain exposure to different areas within Morgan Stanley through shadowing and networking opportunities, while still having time to pursue their other interests in the remainder of the summer.
If selected, you will receive detailed information on timing, program activities and resources to help you prepare. If you are still interested in the Freshman Enhancement Program based on the changes described, please complete your online application by Sunday, January 22 and we will look forward to reviewing your completed application in the coming weeks. Regardless, we look forward to staying in touch regarding upcoming events and programs that may be of interest to you."
Is it even still paid?, some might be better off just doing pwm or some informal SnT gig instead of a 1 week program.
yeah its still paid but I'm guessing this program will help them recruit people for sophomore summer programs.
That's exactly what it is. 1 week enhancement program -> (sophomore summer program ->) SA -> analyst
When do we hear back? Also, what other freshman programs are there?
Curious about this as well.
Most programs for freshman would be PWM, Boutique IB/PE, or those like pre internship 3 day programs at the BB's. I know GS and JPM have them but I think those deadlines are long past.
Have friends that did MS freshman enhancement. Many would just use the program to recruit elsewhere for sophomore summer (ex: GS). They'll probably have a much easier time retaining kids for their sophomore summer if the program is reduced to 1 week.
Sorry for the bump, but I'm curious: anyone heard back from the program yet?
I have not yet heard back either about the status of my application.
Thanks, good to know that I'm not being left out of the loop just yet. Lol, funny I made an account just to ask that one question
Past years haven't really found out until mid April to mid may so you've got some time.
I see, thank you for the heads up! That's a weigh off my shoulders!
Has anyone heard back?? Last year it seems like super day was before Feb 20..
I haven't heard anything back either. Also, the 2015 thread had people receiving first calls through the first week of March so there's still some hope...
I sent an email inquiring as to that last week. On February 16th I got the reply "Applications are currently under review and candidates can expect to hear back in the next few weeks."
So I guess that means give it at least one more week. Not gonna lie though, I jump everytime an unsaved number call my phone.
Just received an email with an invitation to interview
I did as well
Are there interviews from different department? Are you from minority background?
The program has historically been for URMs. A resume with the name "Nick Zhou" will likely not be selected.
Could those of you who got an email to interview give a little background on what division you applied for?
In order of ranked preference: 1) Investment Banking 2) Institutional Equity Sales and Trading 3) Quantitative Finance The email didn't specify which division I was being interviewed for, only that it would be with someone from the Institutional Securities Group (which covers all of these, as far as I can tell).
Got an email from MS inviting me for a phone interview. The guy who sent it works in Wealth Management Investment Resources, which makes sense since I selected:
1) Investment Management 2) Wealth Management 3) Bank Resource Management
when did you get an email?
To those of you who already interviewed, did you email your interviewer thanking them? If so, where did you find their email? Thanks!
I had the same idea but couldn't - I found them online just from their name/personal info I got in the interview but didn't see an email address anywhere unfortunately
My interviewer contacted me through email first to schedule a time, I just used the same email address to thank him.
I'm not sure I understand the benefit of this program, or why people care so much to get into it. Does it help for sophomore recruiting?
Originally the program was a full fledged internship, which was one of the few legit finance internships you could get as a freshman and this, as far as I can tell, helped a lot with later recruiting. Now that it's only a week it'll be less helpful, but at a minimum it gives the opportunity to network with MS people.
Anybody know what the timeline looks like for 2nd rounds/acceptances/rejections?
Not at all, my interviewer insinuated I'd be contacted by HR a couple days after but it's been about a week so I may have just gotten dinged - has anyone gotten a second round invite?
My recruiter informed me that after all the interviews were done, they'd send their opinions to HR who would then make their decisions. At the time he informed me "a few weeks" so, considering that was exactly a week ago, I suspect at least one more week before anyone starts hearing back
Has anybody been contacted yet?
Nope
No one's heard anything back. It's more worrisome because the previous years seem much better organized. Between the severe length reduction, lack of contact, and sever delays this year's program seems pretty shoddily-organized so far.
I just got the offer
Also just got the offer - it's via a call from HR
From which divisions?
MdrnSpartan The person on the phone didn't specify, I listed my division preferences above - also HR said that the official email acceptances will be sent at latest Monday
Well, it's Monday and I haven't received either an email or phone call yet so I assume I wasn't accepted. Congratulations to those that were however and good luck!
Does anyone know if they're sending out rejections? I haven't heard back. Will there be another wave of decisions? Thanks!
Don't think there will be another round of decisions as many have already received rejections and, as someone who accepted the offer, we've already signed and set most things up for the summer. Definitely recruit for MS Sophomore opportunities as well as other BB's, good luck!
