2017 San Francisco Analyst Housing Thread (Early I Know)

It's early for sure, but looking out there to see who else is relocating after graduation 2017 to San Francisco for IB or related professions.

( Anyone moving in Summer 2017 is welcome to join in on conversation - regardless of position or profession)

That's all downtown. There are some expensive apartment buildings there, but not generally much in the way of a "neighborhood" (though south beach does have some nice apartments). If you want to be that close to downtown, you should look at North Beach, Russian hill, telegraph hill, or Nob hill

I will be in San Francisco and am looking for housing advice. I will be in the Financial District and would like to live as close to my office as possible. Is Craigslist the best thing to look at? I know living at one of the colleges is an option but those seem further from the financial district.

The two best resources are Craigslist and housing groups on Facebook. When I first moved to SF I didn't realize how insane it is trying to rent a place; some people were showing up with completed paperwork to open houses. Though once you're here as long as you're ready to move ASAP it's not so bad. It's impossible trying to secure housing while not in SF. Great neighborhoods are nob hill, marina, north beach, Russian hill, and the mission. Lived in north beach and nob hill and had a 15-20 minute walk as commutes, It was worth it.

Yes that is. There are apartment buildings nearby, but they're super expensive and it's not much of a neighborhood. Also, so you know: it's very easy to identify where you're working based on that location. As far as I know, JPM and BlackRock are the only major financial firms around there.

I'll be in the Financial District. What do you guys think of AirBnB? I saw some postings, and they were super cheap considering they were furnished and had all utilities (including internet) taken care of.

There are a few openings in a woman's house in which you share your room with probably super weird people ($1K/month) that frankly looks like shit and a bunch in a nearby professional hostel, sharing a room with 4+ people ($1700/month). I've stayed in hostels in Europe but never for so long. What do you guys think of a 10-week stay in such a hostel?

I'm moving there full-time. If your moving for a summer internship, and your going to be in IB, do not be economical if you can avoid it.

It is much more important that you kill it at your internship than it is you walking away with a few extra dollars. In other words, make life easy on yourself and as little as a hassle as possible.. find somewhere close to your office so you have an easy commute, doorman if you need shirts delivered from dry cleaners, etc...depends on what you expect your hours to be. But do not take the cheapest option and have to deal with sharing space with people ...get the full-time job is all that matters...judge what's best for you ..middle road somewhere

Any insight on how much I should expect a place with these amentities, without roommates, in this location, cost for just the summer?

Or if this is even possible to find. Thanks.

I realize this is the 2017 thread but just accepted FT in SF for 2018 so have plenty of time - just wanted to see if there is any advice from those who went through the housing process last year? It's worth noting that I'm married as well - so any insights as to a reasonable amount for married couple to drop on rent... I was thinking of Pac Heights or Marina and from what I have heard from friends the options are $2700 for a tiny studio or $3k+ for a one bed.

If anyone has questions on how to handle housing, where to look, what current rates are etc feel free to ping me. Been here almost 4 years now and have dealt with the rental market several times now. Where you live in SF can significantly impact your experience

I'm currently in SF, but transitioning out of IB to Corp. Strat in Silicon Valley. My current lease is up at the end of June and looking for roommates as well. Anyone want to join the hunt? Am on the ground here right now so can provide some tips/resources for first timers as well.
