2nd interview and psychometric profiling?
Was just extended an invitation to a follow-up interview with the VP of a mid-sized shipping freight/commodity trading firm, and told to complete a 3-part Hogan personality test (online) beforehand.
Having been interviewed by the CRO for the initial interview, we got along very well and the theme was largely focused on personality traits and my background. Being heavily quizzed on my motivation for entering the industry (and - by my own logic - rather creatively circumventing the cliché money response), the interview ended on the note that "although he considered himself an excellent judge of character, he couldn't seem to identify my true intentions" (sic). I retorted that I choose to interpret that as a favorable, and was pleased with myself that I wasn't pigeonholed in the "daddy's boy" category that (I assume) is a recurring profile.
There is a fine line between arrogance and capitalistic, and in my experience it is a balancing act that is hard to convey. This is underpinned by the fact that these shops are highly commercial by nature and the fact that I reside in an egalitarian part of the world.
I know the Hogan tests are sometimes tuned towards screening for characteristics that are desirable in that specific company/industry, hence I will direct my responses with contextual rational in mind.
So, any suggestions as to how I can make favorable impression at the 2nd interview (VP + CRO) or in terms of the Hogan test in particular?
One good mantra you could remember is to be confident and have the right attitude to exhibit your skills so that the employers get the right impression about you.
