2nd tier Mgr or m/b/b Associate?
I'm having trouble making up my mind. If you could choose between an offer as a manager with a 2nd tier consulting firm (still top 10) or a post-MBA Associate position with an m/b/b which offer would you choose and why?
This question makes no sense. Are we talking about choices that exist in different dimensions? If you're post MBA, then wouldn't both positions be post-MBA? Why is one position called a manager and the other an associate. If the firms are both in the top ten, I can't imagine them doing things that differently.
maybe the first is engagement manager (higher than associate at mckinsey) role
then second one would be the associate role?
that really depends on your long term goals
if you want to stay in consulting, its basically 2 years difference from the 7+ years that it will take one to make partner
(personally i would take post-mba role at MBB because the projects you work on and your exposure is at a different level, exit opportunities also very different)
7S you're right. First is engagement manager, second is associate role. Thanks for your input! And jhoratio: Yes, they evaluate do those things differently for an experienced hire.
MBB
MBB generally promote on merit not tenure so if you join and perform at "manager level" it won't be long until you make manager.
