2nd year analyst
Has anyone ever heard of someone in second year getting an internship in Ibanking?? This is a very unusual case and I know there has to be some downsides to this as well as the obvious upsides. Someone at my school was able to get an internship at a canadian firm (BMO/RBC/CIBC) and is only a second year so this came as a surprise to me.
Possible upsides:
-can try and shoot for a BB NY firm next year
-well ahead of the competition
Possible downsides:
-would get grilled in a future interview with another ibank because of his past experience
Search the forum. There are several others that are trying to do the same and they have posted. Maybe their postings can help you.
Huge advantage.
Its not that uncommon, myself and quite a few people I know have or had internships at BBs in their IBDs. I have a friend who got an internship at Bear Sterns his freshmen year. He had a connection within the firm but it is not unheard of to have banking internships before your junior year.
But do people that land ibanking internships in 2nd year still get offers to return FT after they graduate? And if they do, what do they do the summer after 3rd year...go back to the same firm and do the same thing?
It all depends on how you did during your internship and if you got good reviews.
It is VERY rare to find people with summer internships in the summer of either their freshman or sophomore years. Unless the person has a contact, it is extremely difficult to get an ibanking internship before your junior year.
If you don't get one before your junior year, don't worry, you will be just like 98% of all other hopeful summer analysts.
On the other hand, if you some how do, you will be at a HUGE advantage.
