Hi SamSung,

The below is solely my personal opinion on the matter.

'Giving up' might be the wrong wording. I suggest you evaluate your options realistically and approach the situation accordingly.

A gap of 2 yrs (from your outline it seems that it might even be longer, assuming you finished LSE in '11) would be of obvious concern to me when interviewing you; particularly when you mention you 'waited for your MD to sort you out'. Somewhat sounds like you took a backseat and waited for someone to place you - not exactly the pro active approach you require in this industry. However, i understand that it is not an easy task in the US when you don't get recruited into IBD via grad program or post-MBA.

Don't think anybody will give you a 'how to' guide here in the forum but suggest you think carefully about the MBA. Requires another ~1.5yrs, is costly and does increase your probability of success by a margin - ignoring the fact that you should attend one of the top 5 schools to have any meaningful impact.

On a positive note, i have seen interesting things happening in this industry so keep pushing.

All the best.

It's history so wouldn't worry too much about things you can't change anymore.

Look, i might not be best placed to discuss 'employability' post MBA in the US hence i can't give you my opinion on the latter.

A gab is obviously a challenging thing to overcome, as in your case - i don't know you and would shy away of making definite statements based on assumptions only. This will have to be decided on a case by case basis.

In regards to your 'edit'; no doubt you have done some interesting things, which may well be of assistance at some stage.

I'll wrap it up here and leave you to it; what is possible going forward is most likely a combination of your efforts, luck and ability to let go at the right time to focus on alternative opportunities.

Best of luck in your future endeavours.

Cheers
