32-year-old - how long to become a portfolio manager?
I am 32 years old, working in healthcare industry in the UK. In the past, I had a 6-month long experience as a market maker and a 9-month long as a futures prop trader.
Now I'm looking to go back to the finance industry with a goal of becoming a portfolio manager in a pension fund. How long might it take me to achieve this position? Is there anyone here from the UK that could offer some tips as to the salary I might expect at a starting position and how it might progress when I reach the PM status?
I don't know the UK pension structure, but most of the pensions in the US don't have true PMs. They are capital owners not managers and therefore give money to firms who have PMs that invest the money. Is this what you're looking to do or you want to be a PM at an investment firm that manages money for institutional clients (such as pensions)? I can provide some guidance with more clarity.
