A Lost Law Student
Hello all,
Perennial lurker here, figured my first post might as well be a desperate plea for help to the WSO community. Here's my problem: I got off the traditional IB career path in college when I set out to buy an insurance brokerage. Originally, I planned to expand the company to also offer WM and estate planning. (And in my defense, the brokerage was a cash flow monster and I was also young and dumb). Anyways, while I worked on this new company I also attended law school on scholarship to get a JD/MBA.
Fast forward to today, I now know that I hate both insurance and estate planning lol, and so I have since sold my position in the business entirely. Also, I am entering my final year of law school and have pivoted my focus to transaction law. Further, the MBA is on pause for now and I am looking at the CFA (I take Level II in June).
So given my diverse background, what would my path be if I want to work as a lawyer in transactional law while also engaging in the financial aspect of deals? I am not particular to any specific part of the industry, I am just looking for a viable path where I can work deals as a JD and as a CFA/MBA. Last thing, given that I have been out of the industry, should I try to find a SA position or IB internship?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
