A new, broader resume review service
Hi everyone,
We are writing to introduce a new service, called Qonnect.me; we are a team of UPenn/Stanford alumni, with the aim to provide resume review for people interested in breaking into finance and/or technology. Right now, with the markets going insane, we think it is not only helpful to help those interested in finance get the edge they need, but also to help the many who are currently contemplating other career paths (tech, startups, etc.) figure out exactly what they want, and how to position themselves accordingly. It's a tough time, and we want to help! Also, going forward we'll be posting our thoughts and comments on the topics that pop up on wallstreetoasis. There's our plug; looking forward to interacting with the wallstreetoasis community!

suggestion
here's an honest suggestion, each member of your team should post his/her resume on the site. first, it would serve as examples of what a polished resume should look like, and second, would build some credibility; otherwise, why would anyone waste time getting his resume "reviewed" by some anonymous schmuck on the internet?
that's a good point
Unfortuantely, a few of our members are still working in finance, etc., and we don't feel comfortable putting up our resumes on the site. This is why we provide free phone consultation, to show that we are not "some anonymous schmuck on the internet". Your worry is definitely warranted, but a convo with us will/should prove that we know what we're doing. I guess we are taking a page out of Dosk's book for that one; we love his blog and his service, and all the help he has provided over the past few months to potential candidates, and we think we can bring something similar to the table, from a slightly different and maybe broader vantage point. Also, we plan on expanding our site within the next few months; we wanted to keep this initial version as simple/streamlined/easy to use as possible (literally, all it consists of is uploading your resume and getting feedback for free).
Thanks for the input nextdoorhobo!

Hey qonnect, welcome
A few suggestions:
1. Dosk has a successful business because he's posted a weekly blog on investment banking for about two years: I don't mean to be a downer, but frankly that is what earned him credibility and why people rely on his service.
2. WSO has a resume critique service as well. No need to compete: in fact, it is an open model. Users post their resumes in the forum:

where everyone can provide some feedback. Most people are as uncomfortable with sending in their resume to someone who is not established as someone who does have a career is posting their resume up.
Luckily, if you really did think nextdoor's suggestion was great, you can still follow through. Simply genericize your resume and post it on the resume service forum. As you can see plenty of users have done this already. It would be a great way to introduce your team to the forums, and by offering advice to other forum members, you can build a great customer base for your service! Good luck.

Your website is really sketch. There is no contact information, no about us page, only one page consisting of a paragraph of information, no reasoning asides from 3 bullet points on how you'll improve the resume, and you quote some places charge $200 (what other places). What do you bring to the table and why should i use your service when there are other very similar more established services?
that website is by far the
that website is by far the most unprofessional website i've ever seen.
don't mean to be an ass or anything, but what in God's name are they teaching you at Upenn and Stanford?
Actually
We (some of us being tech people) believe in simplicity and ease of use; we built this website with that type of approach (think 37signals), as opposed to the standard garbage of "about us" pages and content that can be explained via phone, instead of in text, etc etc. That said, we literally just launched today, so we figured it better to put up something, vs nothing, and start getting in touch with people ASAP. So far our first day has pulled in 17 resumes, we're hoping for alot more over the next few weeks, as we develop the site and our practice! Thanks for the input Default and bearing; if you feel this is not your cup of tea, http://www.mergersandinquisitions.com does a great job of giving meaningful content up-front, as well as a very thorough resume review service. Also, check out our WSO commentary as well, we'll try to share our tips and info as much as possible throughout these forums, even if our website is not to your liking; as an FYI, we've noticed that people either love the fact that it looks simple, or they absolutely hate it, so I guess you guys are in the latter category :)
