A Non-Target Introduction
Hello, glad to join WSO! Let me introduce myself:
I’m a junior honors finance student at a non-target college. 3.5 GPA (expected 3.744 by graduation, or 3.6 by next summer). Lots of club leadership history. I’m looking to transfer to NYU for next fall semester.
So far I've interned at 2 life insurance companies - the first experience consisted of mostly administrative work, and the second was a sales position. I've got a decent chance at a particular S&T spot this upcoming summer, which I’m planning to use as a stepping stone into IB.
Outside of finance, I’m very interested in medical science, and I hope to simultaneously pursue a PhD if I eventually decide to exit IB for a buy-side job.
All that said, I do have a concern maybe you all can help me put to rest:
With only a handful of credits remaining (expected graduation May 2016), would it hurt my shot of any IB SA offers to graduate from a non-target, if I don’t get into NYU or a similar, semi-target school? Or should I rather transfer to one of my backup choices (Fordham, Rutgers, Stony Brook, or Adelphi, all rated significantly higher than my current school) but delay graduation (from the credits that don’t transfer/etc.) until 2017? Has anyone here already researched IB recruitment at these schools who can save me from making a poor decision?
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, belated Winter Solstice, Festivus, and other celebratory occasions. I look forward to participating in the community. Enjoy your bonuses.
I've met a bunch of bankers from Fordham, I think that would be a solid backup to NYU
solid backup to NYU, yes
