Advice for college students

First off there is no bible or guide to making it into PE or IB or HF. A lot of the time on this forum people will tell you that you need to do this that and this to get the job that you want. After going two internships in PE I learned a lot and gained a huge ammount of information. I go to a non target and I started at a community college. I used my connections alone to get into these internships. No, they were not through my family or friends pure self promotion. There is no check box to any profession, do what you have to do to get the job you want and never let anything stop that. Unless of course the MD tells you too...

Yes, I belong to a squash club where usually there are wealthy individuals. I knew that my boss from my internship was a managing director for a asset managment doing more than 100 billion AUM. I asked him for a job and he told me to apply, at the time he had no clue what I wanted to do in life. I asked him if I beat him in a game of squash if he would throw me a bone and do an internship. I was very respectful but of course I had a competitive attitude which he of course had as well. I beat him 3-1 and I gave him the last game. I won the game and won a spot at an intern on the equity team. All my co workers(analyst, associate, MD) all are from top 4 MBA school with experience. I'm one lucky son of a bitch and greatful.

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.
