Advice for LEAVING my bank to switch careers
I'll start by saying I'm an AM analyst at a major BB. I happen to be in a recent graduate program as well. For anonymity's sake I'll leave it at that. Unlike the majority of my colleagues, I learned that I loved studying Finance in an academic capacity much much more than I do working in the field. I understand this won't be the case for 99.99% of people reading this...but hey I didn't think it would turn out this way either.
To get to the point I'm coming up on my 1 year with the firm. I figure that I can make a career switch but still keep the position on my resume should I decide to go to grad school in the next few years. I'm curious though, people with finance backgrounds tend to be great candidates for more senior management positions in firms regardless of the industry (for the most part).
With me only having 1 year under my belt, is the position going to hurt me or help me as I look for work in a different field?
I know this is dependent on the industry, but I'm still working that part out....Judge all you want, I've come to terms with my decision. Thanks everyone, and best of luck as you try to break in to the field. Feel free to ask any recruiting questions as well if you're a soon-to-be grad.
