Advice for Soon to Graduate Senior

First, I am a fresh poster so I apologize if this information could be found in a sticky or if it is in the wrong place.

A little background info about me:
I am a senior (6 classes left, 2 this summer and 4 in the fall) at the University of Alabama majoring in Finance. I am looking to get into an Analyst position in the near future. I am a little bit older than my classmates as I am 26 (priorities were in all the wrong places in HS), and have had a 30 hr a week job as a teller at Wells Fargo coming up on 6 years in August. I have good friends in the industry (Bloomberg, JPM, and some analysts in companies like L'Oreal, Comcast...) that will be helping me as well. I have not done an internship yet as I have had no time because of my current position at Wells Fargo. Leaving the job to intern for the past summers was not an option. I needed the health benefits and to support myself as I am financially independent. The job would not be there when I returned if I were to leave.

The way I see it is I have 2 options:
1. Finish my classes in the fall and intern in the spring to graduate in May 2017. I was told off-cycle internships are few and far between, also I am not sure if Wells actually offer any internships besides the summer. I will be calling HR this week to gather more information on that. I also made a list of other places I will be cold calling and inquiring on where opportunity might be. When would postings start showing up for these positions? Is one internship enough as I feel like some of my classmates who have done two or three would be at a huge advantage over me.

  1. This option was given to me by the campus career center but as advised from everyone I've talked to in the industry is the wrong one to choose. Set my graduation date for December 2016 and start applying for full time positions this upcoming fall. The adviser stated I would not have trouble getting into a career because of my work experience. Skeptical student is skeptical.

Experienced and all knowing posters of WSO what should I do? I feel as if this will impact the next couple years of my life and it is approaching very quickly. Thank you in advance and Im sorry for grammatical errors, in a bit of a rush today.

Shouldn't your school offer health insurance? If so, you don't need to keep the teller job at WF, you just need to keep a job so you get paid (and most internships pay). FT recruiting for a lot of jobs starts in the fall, with spring being more geared for internship recruiting (but still some FT jobs).

Personally I would start networking now, try to get an internship for this summer (or maybe next fall - either way you'll have something relevant on your resume), then do FT recruiting in the fall. I don't think it'll really matter whether you graduate in spring or fall, with the exception that if you graduate in fall, maybe you can do an internship in the spring somewhere other than where you're going to school.

There is more to the WF job than just the insurance. I took tuition reimbursement in Dec 2015 in which I will have to repay if i do not stay with the company for a year after payout. I don't have outside financial support either so I have to be really careful. I do intend to intern back home in the NY NJ area in the spring, but will apply for FT in the fall anyway. Will FT work look better than Internship work on my resume if I were to change companies? I guess what I am trying to ask is would FT Analyst at Church and Dwight/Comcast/ext look better than a spring intern at Wells Fargo? I am going to assume yes but I wouldn't be asking the question if I was not positive.

Got it regarding the WF job.

"Will FT work look better than Internship work on my resume if I were to change companies? I guess what I am trying to ask is would FT Analyst at Church and Dwight/Comcast/ext look better than a spring intern at Wells Fargo?"

Can you clarify your question here? Like, why can't you do both a WF internship in the Spring and also a FT job elsewhere? Or are you asking whether it's necessary to have an internship if you already have a FT job locked up? I guess a lot of it depends on what your end goals are (and also the nature of the WF internship)... speaking of which - you don't mention your end goals in your post.

I checked the internal posting site today when I was at work and there is an analytic consultant 1 (associate business analyst) in my target area. That would be a pretty ideal situation for the future but Id like to be an analyst in the Tri-state area. Id like to get into a BB if this WF does not work out after experience at an internship and a FT spot somewhere.
