Advice regarding EU universities
Hi,
I need some help in selecting a couple of EU universities (best fit for my profile) For MIM/Msc Finance. I worked for GS Ops for 2 years and resigned a year back in hopes of starting a venture with my friend back at home. The venture ultimately failed after 6 months and by that time it was a bit too late to apply for the 2014 intake.
I took my GMAT a month back and got a 710. I have decent academics overall (76% in commerce which is a 'first class with distinction' ranking - Unoffical GPA calculators estimate it to be around 3.5). On the side , I have been focusing on completing individual diplomas based around finance (short 3 month courses based on macroeconomics & portfolio management). I've shortlisted my selection to the below universities.
1. HEC MIM
2. Essec MIM
3. ESCP MIM
4. LSE Msc Finance
My question is that
1) do i have a valid shot at applying to these universities - the application fees alone translates to a huge sum in Indian Money and i really have to nitpick universities in which i stand a good chance.
2) Will the Gap year that I've taken deter my chances at these universities? - quitting my job brashly before actually doing a complete market research was admittedly a huge mistake on my part and i am worried that this would prove quite a deterrant.
The next course starts around september 2015 - so i will have another gap year in which i plan to complete the first level of CFA. I'm actually looking to have a career in the portfolio management.
Thanks,
KJ
So depending on your career goal the LSE MSF is clearly the best choice.
Work experience at GS is definitely a good thing, even if it's not FO. Your GPA could be a problem though for LSE. They basically require you to score top 5% of your program (Cum Laude, with honors, etc.). This problem may be overcome if you went to a great school in undergrad? I would definitely still try though, with a 710 GMAT and GS on your resume you're surely an interesting candidate I'd assume.
