Post Private Equity Internship Opportunities

Hi all,

So this summer I had the opportunity to work for a private equity firm (~$200 million firm). Figured I'd be doing mostly low level work but ended up spending most of the summer as the lead analyst for the acquisition of a company with $20-30 million in yearly revenues from beginning to end, which should give me some somewhat unique resume experience.

I am currently going into senior year at Duke with a 3.8 GPA and I am a division 1 athlete as well. I will most likely be doing a 5th year either in the Duke MMS program or more undergrad to finish out my athletic eligibility, so I have 2 more years even though I am going into senior year. The PE firm has said they will be willing to bring me on board next summer as well but do not hire undergrads so that will not be an option once I graduate. The head of the firm has said that he would be willing to write me a killer letter of recommendation though.

Since PE internships are somewhat more uncommon than investment banking internships in terms of having a set path, I was wondering what all of you thought my opportunities would look like going forward and what I should be looking at in the finance field. On one hand I do not have specific investment banking internship experience (especially the type that leads to offers at BBs) but on the other hand did get very good private equity experience. I am open to most options within the finance field. I'm not totally sure how this experience compares to other experiences coming out of undergrad so my apologies if something similar to this has been answered before.

Thanks!
