Alternatives to Hedge Fund

I've roam this forum for a while and I've seen many people say that hedge fund and investment banking is dead. People keep saying that start up is the new way. Due to my ignorance, I do not know what you guys are referring to. I'm pursuing a finance career. How do I break into these "start up" ? What jobs would you guys suggest going for?

Welp, with that kind of writing prose you can expect to break into neither banking nor tech...

Now to address your post:

1) IBD and HF is NOT dead JPM just reported gross investment banking revenue with Commercial Banking clients up 22% today... and Investors just added $6.57B into hedge funds in May bringing the grand total up to 3 TRILLION AUM... how tf one could regard that 'dead' is beyond me...

2) Silicon Valley is the "hip" thing to do these days because of shorter hours and mainstream popularity -- similar to the tech boom in the 90s -- and some prefer equity in a startup hoping for an eventual IPO as more rewarding than IB bonuses which are strongly correlated to economic cycles

3) Why would you ask about how to break into tech on a finance forum... that's a waste of time for both yourself and anyone who answers

Summing it up, finance -- specifically IBD and HF -- is NOT dead and not going anywhere anytime soon and tech is a fad that appeals to people due to the equity acquired in potential IPO candidates, shorter hours, and millennial/younger 'hip' colleagues (gag)
