I am a first year associate at a big European AM (one of the top 3). During the past year I have been a top performer, so I am starting to wonder about my future once I have some work experience, mostly as one of the senior people told me that AM salaries are at the low end of the financial world at this stage (the first couple of years). According to my line manager, I would be looking to become a portfolio manager within 3-4 years if my performance continues as it is.
So, I have a few questions:
-Which field pays better, asset management or private banking?
-Is it possible to go from a buy-side research role into trading?
