American for EU MSF....Advise.
I would like to get the perspective of any European WSO'ers out there about the general reputation of some of these Dutch Universities for Master of finance/type degrees. Also anyone else with knowledge of these universities, please throw in your two cents.

I am an American but have lived in the Netherlands for a few months and would love to live there for a few years.Also any clue on Visa difficulties?
Tha only thing I know is that Rotterdam has a descent business school. But for finance the only place you can work in Europe is London,so I would advise you to check schools in the UK. Oxford,Imperial,Warick and LSE are top for Europe,City,Durham are OK
^^^^ This is not entirely true, Frankfurt, Paris and Amsterdam have some positions. The main issue is the language. Now, for a master in finance, there is the post experience in the LBS. If you are going for a master in finance in continental europe I maybe recommend you do a master in management and concentrate in Finance, as these are the flagship programs, e.g. HEC, St. Gallen, even Rotterdam (the only one in your list I consider a decent school).
Rotterdam is decent, rest is not.
I have checked via linkedin and saw a fair amount of alumni from each of these schools in banking and a few dozen of each in London. Out of curiosity, are the other schools(not RSM) scoffed at or just not very well regarded?

What do u think he prospects for an American would be as far as internships and careers? Mind you I only speak English.
Also would it make more sense to do a program at Cass or a 2nd tier university over Rotterdam simply because it is in London?
I believe so,unless you want to work in a minor financial services company in the Netherlands.London is more important for Europe than NY is for the USA. I dont know if you need a Visa to wokr in the UK,but competition will be tough since people from 27 European states (including mine) can work in the UK as if it was their home country...

Thanks for your insight. I want to come to Europe for a couple of reasons: Masters programs are not very well recognized in the US and there are a lot of quality programs in Europe that I have been looking at to break-in to the industry. Also, I figure that if I am to get a masters abroad I would probably be in a better position if I gain some work experience in a place that knows the university I came out of. Lastly, I want to see more of the world; I lived in the Netherlands for a few months and it was beautiful and would love to live abroad for a few years.

I have lots of friends that want to work in Netherlands,there are many opportunities there.Its just that it is not a major financial center.I Europe we have some minor ones (Paris,Milan,Frankfurt) and LONDON.In the first three it is also difficult to work without knowing the language... So for SMF's to sum up: Rotterdam,Bocconi,HEC Paris in Europe. Top in UK:LBS,needs work experience Second:Oxford's MFE (deadline is April 1st) Other 1-tier:Imperial,Warrick,LSE (I believe in this exact order) 2-tier:City,Durham,Cardiff (I would pick City,it has good connections to the industry)
You could work for ING in Amsterdam, nevertheless the main issue to work in a non-london location is language proficiency, period. You can get a FO position for an italian bank in milano coming out of bocconi, but it will be very hard to do so if you dont speak perfect italian.

I think that Netherlands is OK wiht the language issue... Major Banks are ING,ABN Ambro and Dexia,but all went almost almost bankrupt a couple of years ago.
Thank you all for your posts. I really like the Netherlands and was hoping to maybe go to school for my masters there and then work in London. I know that from most of the above posts the only "target" in the Netherlands is RSM, would it be looked down upon if I got a degree from RSM and apply in London.
Also what are your thoughts on Tilburg, I hear is is supposed to be an excellent University and ranks well on FT.
Dutch universities are high quality, but Higheck123 don't go to HES Amsterdam Business School it's NOT a university!! It definitely will ruin your chances getting in to a BB or a Dutch bank. RSM Erasmus University Rotterdam is a top 10 business school in Europe, also has great masters in Finance & Investments and Economics & Business. University of Amsterdam is ok, not fantastic. Tilburg is high caliber but is not well known outside The Netherlands. If you want to get a job at a BB in London definitely go with RSM Erasmus University. A lot of (Dutch) bankers in London studied there, definitely will not be looked down upon.
Finally if you speak English you can work at any bank in The Netherlands even if you don't understand Dutch.
HEC, HSG, LBS, Oxford, LSE, Warwick, Bocconi, SSE and some more I am likely forgetting will set you up well for finance in London(which is the only place you should consider for now anyway).
Job Visa's may be a minor issue due to the UK governments current anti immigration idiocy, but it should not be too much trouble for an american.
Any comment on the new LBS masters in management, looks like a kind of weak curriculum but I know the LBS brand is supposed to be excellent.
