American U for D.C?

I am considering a few schools for the D.C area for a macc specifically American, UMD-College Park, and GWU. I am leaning toward AU but could really use some advice from those who went there/know people that went there, and what the general reputation is for the D.C area. Also, I am looking to get into the government sector in regulation/compliance and would like to attend a school that places well in government. Any help is much appreciated.

UNC is apparently pretty strong... Little outside your range but I assume DC is a pretty strong recruiting hub for UNC

American lives in the shadow of G'town, GWU, and Hopkins in the DC metro area. It's not bad, but certainly most people would rather be at SAIS/SFS. Hopkins and G'town are powerhouses of IR / government work.

Of the three I would pick college park based on costs, as GWU is insanely expensive.

I might be a little biased but Maryland easily trumps them all for Masters in Accounting. We have recruiting from all the big 4 and from most of the top and middle tier consulting firms.

I saw that a fellow Colonial put out the bat signal and have to come in here and root for GWU :)

Seriously, you would be crazy to pick AU over GW. On location alone I would choose GWU all over again. Look, there's like 10+ major Us in the DC area, it would be crazy for you to expect unbiased opinions. You want a good location, you want a good degree that's going to be known around the world? Pick GW. Period. Paragraph.

What's your end game? Hat do you want to do in the government? Maryland is rather expensive out of state ( I realized this too late). Though, the other universities in dc are private so im not sure how their tuition stacks up. To sit for your CPA you only need 150 credit hours and a variety of accounting classes. Also, maryland's grad school is in dc, I think

My ultimate goal is to work in regulatory/compliance in the securities industry for the government sector. American and GWU are both less expensive options compared to UMD and although cost is not the most important factor it is a big one. I would really love to hear about American U's reputation in this field if you have any idea. Thanks.

I'm currently an undergrad in kogod. i dont know a lot about the macc, but government recruiting is big here, although a lot of it is international relations targeted, but there is plenty of regulation/compliance stuff. all big 4 recruits here. Honestly, id go with the one thats the best price..recruiting going to be pretty similar. AU in general reputation is good for govt jobs, but nothing extraordinary.

Thanks for your reply. would you happen to know off-hand if Kogod Students can participate in the International Service and Public Affairs Schools' recruiting events?

I've never been myself but I'm pretty sure you can. Nothing is too formal here, so you can probably just walk in, but SIS people are pretty hardcore about international relations so you might be kinda out of place.

I was under the impression that although GWU does experience a better reputation than American, AU still gets a fair share of recruiting from local D.C firms and government jobs. A buddy of mine says that as far as D.C goes the ranking is: (1) Gtown / GWU (2)Maryland (3)American but all are fairly good schools.

I love my Terps, but you'll pay bigtime for coming from out of state. GW still has one of the highest price tags for any university in the country, but doesn't carry the brand recognition of G-Town. Either one will put you in a position for what you're trying to do. AU probably will, as well, but I don't see them as a business oriented university. Anytime you hear of idiot student protesters doing hippie crap in DC, it's usually AU kids. I'll rank the 3 private schools mentioned so I don't let my UMD bias get in the way:

1) GTown 2) GW 3) AU
