America's Growth Capital (Boston)

I'm applying to a summer analyst position here (http://www.americasgc.com/) and was wondering if anyone knows about how good this boutique is supposed to be.

They only pay their interns $500 a month, which isn't even enough to live on...I would need to deplete most of my savings and ask my parents for money to make it work. The fact that they pay so pooly sets up a red flag and leads me to believe that this either is not a good bank or doesn't care about their interns. Can anyone shed some light?

A lot of boutique shops will bait you by offering you the 'experience' when in reality they just want to pay you little money to do shit work like make copies and run deliveries. I would be wary of non-paid and/or almost-non-paid internships

The website description is below. If my parents lived in Boston and I didn't have to pay rent this wouldn't be too bad, but otherwise it would suck royally. The big question is whether the experience would be worth it.

Hayek ... the position you are considering is for their Research time. America's Growth Capital is full service. You wouldn't be working in their ibanking division.

I know, I would prefer to work in this division. There are many other non-IBD posts here so I figured I would stil get some responses.

"America's Growth Capital" is the shadiest name. Sounds like something you would see in a strip mall next to the Dollar Store.

Yeah that's what I thought too. There are so many cooler names out there (Evercore, Greenhill, BlackRock, etc.) that aren't named after people so you'd think they'd be able to come up with something that sounded cool and/or WASPy.

I thought about applying to this, then realized the $500 a month stipend wouldn't even pay for my gas to and from outside of boston each day. Considering nobody has really heard of them, I decided to pass.

Had a friend work there as an intern. He witnessed first hand someone didn't get a return offer simply he wasn't ivy. Their culture sucks dirty donkey balls and they pay like shit.

Culture also sucks. I'd rather work at FBR than there. And what kind of shitty name is that? 'America's growth' fucking crackheads.

LOL didn't you interview with Friends Brothers Relatives? Hatin because you couldn't even get an offer there?

I appreciate your input whateverittakes and Whiskey5. Any further information?

Worked there as an intern. Not the best internship ever since you'll be doing "research" 99% of the time. Oftentimes it seemed like the people in the office didn't really have anything to give us to do. Pay also sucks--I lost money doing this internship due to commute and paying for food. Didn't really learn anything over the summer from the "work" I did. I spent most of my time looking at old models and seeing how they worked. But the upside to having this internship in my second year was that it positioned me very well for SA recruiting since not many people get internships in banking during their second year and I ended up getting an accelerated SA position. The people in the office also went to bat for me when it came to SA recruiting.

Would I recommend this internship to anyone? Probably not, but if you can't get anything else I would definitely take this if you can afford not making money for a summer.

PM me if you have any more questions.
