Do Associates/VPs/MDs really treat Analysts liks Sh!t?
I read a lot of posts where Associates/VPs/MDs constantly yell at you asking for something, breathing down your neck, and basically treat you like shit with no respect whatsoever.
I am sure there are definitely some truths to it, but is this statement a bit exaggerated or what?
If it's like that most of times, I guess analysts should learn not to take their "yelling/making you feel like worthless" personal and sort of detach their emotions from all that.
Not true. Listen, some banks have a formal hierarchical structure but there not all dicks to you, not even most. You live with these people for 70-100 hours a week, so you actually become freinds with the Associates (sometimes the VP's but not so much, for they travel a lot. Bottom line, ib is just a job.
furthermore, it also various widely from firm to firm, and even group to group within a firm. in other words, it depends.
Totally dependent on the group culture. In my group the best way to describe it is honeymoon period to straight hazing to inclusion once you "get it" and start consistently producing solid work.
It's really like a fraternity. I'd say my honeymoon was about one month (rush), the hazing was two months (pledge term), and the inclusion (active member) has been for the last eight months or so. It's a f'd up system, but it's just the way my group works.
Oh, another analyst in my group has had an extended pledge term and still gets hazed - which is actually quite hard to stomach from my viewpoint.
(should note that most of the groups in my bank are not like this at all - very friendly, but there are always outliers within even the friendly groups)

I would agree with the above posts and add that it also has a lot to do with your attitude. At my bank they take it easy on the rookies (i.e. don't expect much out of you - and for the most part, when you start out, they don't get much out of you). As you progress there will come a turning point (for me it was months 2-8) when they can be extremely hard on you because they expect you to know what the F you are doing, and to do it flawlessly. After you have put in your time (not bitching about anything, continually pumping out good quality work with little/to errors) they will be a little more lax with you.
The people who get shit on the longest and the hardest are the ones who 1) think they know everything, 2) don't take criticism well, or 3) act like their hot shit or some BSD (see #1)
At least that's been my experience.
