any advantage to listing citizenship on resume?
Hi,
I don't know if this is a stupid question, so I apologize if that's the case, but would it be to my advantage to list my citizenship on my resume. I'm a triple citizen - US, UK, and Canada. If anything, I would put it near the bottom in my 'Additional Information' section, and I figured maybe it would make me stand out or seem interesting, similar to my 'interests section. Or maybe it would be an advantage if an employer saw me potentially traveling anywhere? EU is a nice citizenship to have...
Any opinions? And no, this isn't a joke topic - I'm desperate for anything that can help my so-far unsuccessful efforts.
Thanks,
Dublin
I would only add your citizenship if you're applying to a firm that has offices in Europe or Canada, otherwise it would just complicate matters in my opinion.
I would only list it if you are apply to a bank office located in some country and it is not obvious from your resume that you are authorized to work in that country. e.g. you are applying to a US office but all your schooling was done somewhere in Europe.
Honestly, it probably won't help much, and it isn't necessary unless you are applying to a position that would require you to live there (ex. you currently live in Canada, but are applying to a position in NY). Other than that, it won't make a difference and if the company sponsors, then they foreign firm probably wouldn't be all that concerned either.
That said, it is one line at the bottom of your resume - if you've got the room, add it in - it's not going to hurt you, so if you've got space, throw it on there - additionally, if you are fluent in French, I would drop that in as well. Good luck.
sorry for the delay, but thanks for the responses everyone
citizenship on resume? (Originally Posted: 08/27/2012)
I'm a naturalized US citizen (came to the country as a toddler) but I still have a very "foreign"-sounding name which might make hiring managers think that I'm an international student in need of a work Visa. Is it a good idea to put that I'm a US citizen on my resume to clarify?
If you have the real estate, why not.
Put it at the bottom under "Skills/Activities/Interests/whatever"
