Anyone ever deal with HR internal approval issues w/ regards to hiring and headcount needs??
Hi everyone,
My question is basically as stated on the title. Has anyone ever dealt with HR internal approval issues with regards to hiring? Some background: Been out of school for a year and going through an interview process for an experienced IB analyst position. It's dragged on for over 3 months (3+ rounds), and they told recently me that it's taken long because they need the OK from headquarters to hire (they're based in Europe, this is a NYC IB analyst position).
It appears to be maybe a budget / headcount approval issue and the fact that I'm off-cycle and HR likes to go through campus recruiting. Doesn't help the fact that I didn't go to a school they have relationships with (i.e. target school).
Any suggestions on what I should or can do? They told me to give them some time and be patient, but was wondering if there's anything I can do to help my cause other than use offers from other banks to leverage.
Thanks all in advance!
I have been on the other side of this a few times (at F500 not IB). My experience is that there is really nothing you can do. Keep in touch with the group that wants to hire you so that they keep pushing for it, but red tape can really tie things up.
Also, not to be a downer at all, but if things are really hung up (as they appear to be here) often times it falls through. Honestly, you should approach this as though there's a 50/50 chance you get the job and just hope for the best.
The plus side is that regardless of the outcome of this specific role, you're obviously doing the right things. If this happens to fall through, hopefully you'll be able to make something else happen for yourself.
Best of luck!
Have been in this situation many times. Once I was interviewing for a large PR agency, and they pretty much told me I was the top candidate for the job. Dragged it along for 2 weeks, and then told me they made a mistake and the position I applied for was supposed to be closed. What.
Another time, did 4 rounds of interviews and then a hiring freeze happened (F500). Never heard from HR again. Sigh.
Nothing you can really do except wait it out. I would follow up every so often (weekly?)
Wow. Kinda discouraging signs... anyone else with thoughts?
Bump anyone else?
