Rags to riches. You're welcome.

“It is our fate to be tormented with large and small dilemmas as we daily wind our way through the risky, fractious world that gave us birth” Edward O. Wilson.

One of my favourite books is "How to Live: A Life of Montaigne in One Question and Twenty Attempts at An Answer". It's part biography and part philosophy, and tells the story of Michel de Montaigne using the questions he posed and the answers he explored throughout his life.

Nothing related to business: "The Story of my Life" by Giacomo Geronimo Casanova (yes THE Casanova). This man's life is unparalleled.

Born in 1725 in Venice, at 17 he received his doctorate in law at the University of Padua and started his career in the clergy as an assistant to the Roman cardinal. He would later leave the clergy due to a scandal and join the Venetian army as a low-ranking officer. After being stationed in Greece, he returned to Venice to become a violinist. At 21, he saved the life of a nobleman who went on to become his loyal patron, elevating him to the status of a wealthy gentleman. This allowed Casanova to travel across Europe, networking w/ famous people and building his long lasting reputation as a talented seducer. He later became a conman, spy, gambler, and ... necromancer. Charged with witchcraft, the Italian Inquisition threw him in a top security prison, where he executed a daring jailbreak. Considered a fugitive in Italy, he finally settled as a librarian in the castle of a Bohemian Count, where he spent his last years writing his memoirs.

Walter Isaacson, author of books on Jobs, Einstein, and Benjamin Franklin sets the gold standard for modern biography. So impressive, and second all the recommendations for his books.

Right now reading Team of Rivals, by Doris Kearns Goodwin. http://www.doriskearnsgoodwin.com/books.html#team-of-rivals

Saw the movie Lincoln, which was quite good, and supposedly based on [parts of] the book. I think the book is incredibly detailed and well documented. I love the details of all the personalities as well as the historical background. Makes me want to see the film again, but it's only a partial, for sure.
