Applications Actual Deadlines?

Hi all,

I'm currently applying online for equity research positions at some banks. (Yes, I HAVE to do it online because it's for HR records, but I do have some connections at the banks I'm applying to). However, I'm being told by many people that deadlines are pretty much close to or are already over. But the websites say otherwise (i.e January)? I also know that interviews have already started. So I'm really confused. Is HR not even going to bother pulling out my resume despite my connections telling them to do so? If someone can enlighten this naive, young soul here I'd really appreciate it!

Is this for a SA or FT? Connections are great but there is only so much they can (or are willing) to do if you miss the deadlines for applications. In my experience, the connections I have had have always told me to make sure that I do the whole application by the book and get it in on time so that things are as easy as possible for them. It's just a matter of saying, "yes, put him in the interview mix." It's going to depend on how big the banks are, how formal the application/interview process is and whether or not they fill up all of the spots their first time through.

I'd get everything in ASAP as long as they are still accepting them and then follow up with your connections right away to let them know everything is in.

This is for SA. The actual deadlines posted on websites are around Nov.-early Jan. I've submitted my applications, but so many people who have interned at BBs or other banks have told me that it's too late if you haven't already submitted your applications by now? Is there some sort of unofficial deadline? I'm guessing it's because interviews start around now and positions are filled up according to the first person they like. But I could be wrong.

Yes, the websites say interviews happen in January too. But I know for sure that it happens before then too. Some kids at my school have already gotten interviews and/or offers.

A lot of banks have rolling applications which means, as you stated, that they take the best people as they come. So it comes down to whether or not they are full. Most BB will fill up their SA spots before the new year. Some spots will open up again as people reneg on offers and so some additional hiring will take place in January/February.

You said you've completed your apps? Did you let your contacts know? If not, send off an email to them ASAP.
