Apply for IBD summer analyst as a final-year student in the UK??
As stated in the topic, I am in a one-yr Msc FE program in UK. I know the requirement for SA is to be in the penultimate year, however from what I heard European banks are quite understanding and usually don't mind taking final-year undergrad/grad students as SA and then convert them to full-time hires in Jan the following year. Can any one who knows such rule talk more about how this works? If possible, what are the banks in London who would take on final-year SA?? Thanks !
I don't have any firsthand experience with this whatsoever given that I'm American and based in NYC, but I have several friends/know of those at the corresponding office of my firm who did exactly what you are outlining. There are even those who have gotten long-term internships post-graduation, taking a 6-9 month internship after completing the course of their studies and converting to a true full-time position more than a year after finishing school (usually an MSc).
There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which firms were accommodating in this regard, it seemed to be more a function of their grades, name-brand of the school (almost invariably Oxbridge or top-tier continental program), assessment center performance, and networking.
Hope this is helpful. Best of luck.
Thanks APAE, I appreciate!
It is usually fine to apply in your last year. A couple of fellow interns back in 2010 were in their last year. The only thing i must highlight is that the ones who got the offer, they were not all able to start immediately and had to wait for a year like the regular intake.
Note: I work in a US BB in London
