me too actually, I was just about to post a thread about AQR. Has anyone on WSO ever interviewed/interned/worked for AQR before? Do they hire undergrads for internships/FT positions, or are they inclined only towards candidates with grad school degrees in quantitative fields? Here is their website : http://www.aqrcapital.com/RecruitingHome.htm
Well I know that they recruit out of undergrad.

Are these guys a real HF or more of an investment mangement firm/FoF?
They're definitely not a fund of funds--they make principle equity investments using (mostly) stat-arb/quant models. Now, you could argue that some of their platforms are essentially small mutual funds in nature, but they definitely have a large hedge fund platform. Google Clif Asness, who's pretty well known in finance and an incredibly good communicator in general--he was the initial guy brought in to run Goldman Sachs Quant Strategies funds and actually let that post for Carhart and co. to pick up.
Definitely a bad-ass Quant shop.

Anyone have an opinion on AQR Capital Management, in terms of their market performance, the quality of people they hire and competitiveness of obtaining positions and what roles people hired with quantitative backgrounds play? Thanks.
basically a mutual fund shop now. if you have a phd in econ they'll probably hire you and write about how many phds they have in their marketing materials
bloomberg magazine ran an article on them last month.. get to it
