20-25%. there are a lot of closet smokers.
Walk to the front of your building and you'll see at least 10 people standing outside smoking at any given time
But are they Bankers or just ppl working for the firm (back office monkey)? In a high-class profession such as Banking or other front office jobs, is smoking seen as something taboo? Some ppl look at me wierd when I light one up.
Stick with Skoal, you can do it in your cube after hours.
How much does a can cost in manhattan?
Yeah guys I am concerned about this as well. I am very used to smoking a lot at work, probably going out every 1.5 hours or so. It hinestly helps me get more done, but will I be seen as lazy taking that many breaks?
How many smoke breaks are acceptable in a day?
The only people that were going down to smoke every hour or two were the secretaries and receptionists.
one tactic could be to become "smoking buddies" with someone more senior, even if hes not your direct superior, when he invites you to join him for a smoking break, doesn't make you look like you "choose" to be lazy. haha
I believe everyone wants afew smoking friends, its more relaxing to hang out with afew crap talkers and smoke.
I know someone who went from 2 cigarettes a day to over 10 because she did exactly this.
what about cigars? They must be a staple in bankers' lifes. But obviously not during the work day.
Are you a smoker? (Originally Posted: 04/09/2012)
With the recent threads on opinions on girls that smoke, probably 90% + of people that responded said that it was disgusting which leads me to believe that all those people are non smokers themselves.
Out of curiosity then, do you smoke regularly or socially or whatever?
Personally, I smoke. Looking to quit. (If you have any advice on the best way given the stressful nature of finance, let me know).
I used to hate it, now I smoke when I drink.. Trying to make sure I dont start doing it during the day now.
+1
No, I don't smoke. In fact, being around people smoking would make me sick when I was younger...it still does, but my tolerance level has increased a bit.
I smoke socially occasionally (once or twice a month) and have a cigar about two to four times a month during the spring and summer time. I am lucky in that i simply don't enjoy cigarretes while sober and so have never been tempted to develop a habit. Cigars on the other hand are a habit I refuse to give up, but given my frequency I'm not too worried about it.
Good luck quitting. I can emphasize the exercise component as it helped a lot when I gave up processed foods and red meat for awhile. Whenever you are abstaining from something you enjoy developing a complimentary habit really helps, not least because you don't want to ruin all your exercise work you did in a day by lighting up or digging into a twinkie.
im the only kid in my family not smoking
and all my sisters, female cousins smoke
hell
I smoke... It sucks.
I am still in the process of trying to quit.. I find when I'm craving one to go outside and just take a breather and it usually helps. Use lots of gum and candy too!
I smoke but only one person knows. I love smoking but am embarrassed by it.
Yes to your first question and the addiction to your second. Note, addiction can be a love/hate thing. I also enjoy what I see as its "seductive" elements as addiction does denote a particular form of seduction.
Tobacco's just disgusting. That's including cigars. Cigarettes are poison wrapped in paper. Cigar has that weird smell with the gross tobacco smell. Chewing tobacco...yuck.
Of course I come from a family of nonsmokers.
Read what you wrote again, and come back later...
if your best friend died from lung cancer, due to smoking.. it kinda gives you a reason to indirectly bash smokers.
doubt thats the case, so just get outa here.
oh! you might wanna start indirectly bashing asians for eating fish heads too, just because you think its "yuck", and probably come from a family that don't eat fish heads.
Your logic fails to consider the fact that one case (smokers) indirectly affects others around them and the other (Asian fish-head eaters) has virtually no impact on bystanders. I can't even drive to work with my widows down without my car filling up with smoke from the person in front of me, let alone walk in front of most buildings without catching a lung-full.
