Does anybody find it perplexing that an elite CRE firm requests your Social Security number on their "Submit Your Resume" web page or is this normal?

I wouldn't do it. unless they ask for it in person.
I would not submit my SSN on any website unless I was absolutely sure it was secure.
I don't think companies are legally allowed to ask for your SSN on an application, at least in the US...
Why would a company (Related Companies) request that and drivers license information on their resume request?
this is fishy. after you're interviewed, they should ask for it for purposes of a background check (most US companies check your credit now), but not during a resume drop.
Yeah, background and credit check but that's awfully early in the process. Unless they don't want to waste their time on people with bad credit! What is the position?
some companies do ask SSN
I would only give it if I had a pending offer awaiting background check
